GAZA Reconstruction Project
Name of Project: Reconstruction of 5 houses is totally damaged and 20 houses is partially damaged on Gaza Strip. Location of Project: Overall Gaza Strip Duration of Project: 6 months Project Cost: $850,000 .
Project details: This proposal is an urgent response to the needs of the displaced people of the Gaza Strip, trapped within a military conflict zone with no means to evacuate or avoid the conflict. High rates of civilian casualties (1300) and injuries (5300) have been reported and verified by WHO (statistics: situation report 06 WHO). In addition of 5000 housing units was completely destroyed and 50,000 housing units was partially damaged 50% of them are heavy damaged so it’s not suitable for living. This conflict has placed a critically under resourced population who have had reduced services and access to the most basic amenities of fuel, water, electricity and health care, at even greater risk. Prior to the current military conflict which began on 27 December 2008, total closure of Gaza has seen stocks further reduced, and civilians trapped under fire from the air and the sea; this situation has been exacerbated by the ongoing Israeli military ground invasion. This combined situation has left about 50,000 civilians who live on UN open shelters which is an unprotected environment, with water availability extremely limited due both to networks being damaged and pumps unable to refill tanks due to lack of electricity, this beside very cold weather and raining all the time was affected those displaced people badly because of living under the sky within the open shelters. Within this context Hanan association is planning to reconstruct 25 houses of the poor of the poorest families who are adopted by TAKAFUL program overall Gaza Strip. Hanan association addressed 5 totally damaged houses and 20 partially damaged houses to implement the reconstruction work for them, Hanan association aim to return about 170 people from the shelters to their houses and returned them to their normal life.
PROJECT BUDGET Cost details; As formal and international agencies in Gaza determined the damages cost, they assigned $200 for the 1 squared meter for the totally damaged houses, this amount are enough for reconstruction on medium level. .
