TAKAFUL project provides a unique way to provide relief to Palestinian refugee families, through
direct financial support that helps families sustain themselves and their minimum survival needs. Working with our
partners in civil society in Gaza and Lebanon, we are able to provide relief to families suffering the most devastating effects
of the siege through person-to-person, family-to-family support based on mutual solidarity.
Every day, the news from Gaza continues to pour in - news that highlights the urgent humanitarian crisis
for the people of Gaza. Gaza remains under siege, its borders closed, where more than 1.5 million Palestinians
are denied food, clean water, electricity and medical supplies. The people of Gaza - 80% of them refugees - stand amidst a
military occupation, siege and a humanitarian crisis. The devastation wrought by the military aggression against Gaza in December
2008-January 2009 continues nearly a year later, as construction supplies and other necessary items have been blocked from
entering the Strip.
Palestinian refugees in Lebanon also continue to suffer
from poverty, unemployment and lack of resources, a crisis exacerbated by lack of civil and social rights.
Palestinian refugees are still not allowed to to work in more than 70 professions, causing high unemployment rates,
and thus a high rate of poverty. Large families often live in small spaces due to limitations on the geographical expansion
of the camps.
At this time, your support
is desperately needed to help break the siege of Gaza and alleviate the humanitarian crisis for Palestinian refugees in Gaza
and Lebanon. TAKAFUL-Palestinian Refugee Support Network urges all people of conscience to stand in solidarity with the people
of Gaza during these difficult times by adopting a refugee for a donation of $100 per month, or sharing in adopting a family
for a donation of $60 or $25 per month.
TAKAFUL, the Palestinian
Refugee Support Network, is a project of the Working Families Relief Fund, a California-based organization dedicated to supporting
marginalized working families facing poverty, unemployment, and disability while raising children. For all of our existing
donors, we thank you for your ongoing support in our transition and growth.
